Over the weekend, Southern California (L.A., San Diego, the Inland Empire, and the Coachella Valley) received some of the heaviest rain ever….and an earthquake on top of it.
Yeah. Top that, Florida!
While it wasn’t that bad for us in Pasadena, there were many other areas that were severely impacted – including my hometown of Palm Springs.
So, what are my tips for staying inside and bracing for two natural disasters?
Well, drink. But if you’re not a drink or you don’t want to get blitz, here are some tips:
Have an emergency pack ready.
You should have the following:
- Batteries
- A battery-powered radio
- Diapers, if applicable
- Extra underwear
- A first-aid kit
- Non-perishable food.
- Flashlights
- Water
- Toilet paper
- One paper towel roll
- Extra plastic bags to dispose
This should be one bag that should be easily accessible at any given time of the year. It should also be checked about every six months to replace or update anything.
Have all of your important documents in one place you can grab and go.
This includes marriage licenses, birth certificates, insurance paperwork, passports, etc. You don’t know when you’ll need it and show it to whoever needs to see it.
Stay distracted but remain alert.
It’s good to have your electronic devices – iPad, tablet, iPhone, Android, Kindle, etc. But don’t get so entertained with them, that you ignore what’s happening outside and around you.
Have fun!
I mean, what else can you do? You’re stuck inside for who knows how long? Do family game nights. Catch up on some movies on your favorite streaming apps. Bake some yummy goodness. Cook all the food you hoarded from the grocery store, LOL. Talk to each other!
